Primary Biliary Cholangitis
PBC, formerly known as Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, is a chronic liver disease that slowly destroys the intrahepatic bile ducts within the liver. Over a period of years, liver inflammation may cause scarring, which leads to cirrhosis. PBC is not alcohol or drug related, and it is not contagious.
With early diagnosis and proper medications, most people with PBC will never reach the cirrhosis stage.
