Why support the PBCers?
The PBCers Organization is an online and in-person support system. We offer PBC information and peer support, and raise funds for education and PBC research. We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charity with no paid employees or board members. One hundred percent of your donations support PBC education and research.
Your dollars at work
Since 1998, donations to the PBCers Organization have helped fund research projects through leading researchers such as Doctors Bowlus, Gershwin, Levy, Lindor, Mason and Zein. Your donations also provide funding to research doctors and medical facilities through the American Liver Foundation’s “PBC Fund the Cure.”
The PBCers Organization is often asked to fund specific PBC research projects. We consider all projects and requests for patient participants from individual researchers and medical facilities. Approval is granted through the Board and/or Executive Committee. We announce approved projects in the PBC Daily Digest, PBCers Facebook Pages and X (formerly Twitter) @pbcers.
Currently, the PBCers Organization is helping to fund research through Eric Gershwin, M.D., M.A.C.P., M.A.C.R., University of California Davis. Our entire University of California Davis donations go directly to Dr. Gershwin to fund his PBC research. A few years ago, Dr. Gershwin and his team discovered the first mouse used in PBC research, and additional mice have been shared with other researchers worldwide. These “PBC mice” have helped put together some of the many pieces in a large PBC puzzle.

The PBCers Organization is a tax exempt public charity under section 501 (a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501 (c) (3).
There are various ways you can help fund PBC Research without sending a monetary donation. For example, every time you shop on Amazon go to AmazonSmile, insert our name as charity and a percentage of your purchase will be donated to PBC research. It is the same Amazon site, but helps nonprofits raise funds. The PBCers Organization has received a number of these type of donations and they are really mounting up.

Privacy Policy
The PBCers Organization is committed to respecting the privacy of all donors. The types of donor information we collect and maintain are:
- Contact information: name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.
- Giving information, monetary and or gift items.
- Information on events attended, publications received and special requests.
- Information provided by the donor in the form of questions, comments and suggestions.
The PBCers Organization uses donors’ information to understand their interests in our mission and to update them on the organization’s plans and activities. Some information might be shared with Board members, volunteers and consultants only on a “need-to-know” basis. Confidentiality agreements are required for all Board members and volunteers with access to confidential information.
The PBCers Organization assures donors that none of their information will be sold, rented or shared with any third parties, including other PBC nonprofits.
