When the PBCers Organization began, little was known about this rare disease.  There was very little research or awareness, and most patients were not diagnosed until the later stages of disease. Since then, much has changed, more research & better awareness leading to earlier diagnosis is helping patients receive treatment sooner.  For the majority of PBC patients this is great news. BUT there are patients that do not adequately respond or are unable to tolerate to the current treatments and are still progressing to transplant.

We continue to work with researchers, but our fight is not over until we find the cause and cure for PBC.  It is critical to gain more knowledge of the disease and find treatment options.  Research cannot move forward without the help of PBC patients participating in the patient registry and clinical trials.

Below is a list of clinical trials for PBC where you can learn more about the individual research efforts.   Please help!

Dr Gershwin’s PBC Research Update

There are a number of ongoing studies in the USA for people with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) that have failed on UDCA and have an Alkaline Phosphatase greater than 1.5 above normal. If you are interested in learning more about these studies, please email Dr. Eric Gershwin at megershwin@gmail.com Some sponsors will pay travel costs to one of the centers in the US that are running these trials.
