Pilot Study of Fenofibrate for Primary Biliary Cirrhosis
The PBCers Organization is proud to announce our group will be funding a pilot study of a drug therapy to halt progression of PBC as an alternative for those who do not respond to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). The study will address crucial issues in the management of patients with PBC, which, despite being a rare disease is still the 7th leading cause of liver transplantation in this country.
The "Pilot Study of Fenofibrate for Primary Biliary Cirrhosis" will be conducted at University of Florida in Gainesville and Mayo Clinic Rochester. Patient registration is tentatively scheduled for the end of December, 2006.
Study investigators:
We are very excited about this project because earlier testing in Japan showed good results.
Our many thanks to the Estate of Betty Sigholz and the many PBCers who made donations to our unspecified research fund. Without your generosity and support, we would not be making the progress toward finding new treatments and a cure for PBC. We hope some of our PBCers will be able to participate.
To our dedicated researchers, PBCers around the World are sending their sincerest thanks.
